Domain and hosting
costs in Kenya.

What a .co.ke domain and hosting cost each year, what you get at each price, and the one thing to check about ownership.

The short answer

A .co.ke domain costs about Sh 1,000 to Sh 1,200 a year in Kenya, and first-year offers can be as low as Sh 299. Basic shared hosting costs from about Sh 899 to Sh 2,500 a year. That cheap hosting keeps the site online and nothing more: updates, security and changes are on you. Managed hosting that includes them, like the Anza Studios care plan, costs from Sh 4,500 a month. Whatever you choose, register the domain in your own name.

Kenya's domains end in .ke, .co.ke, .or.ke, .ne.ke, .go.ke, .me.ke, .mobi.ke, .info.ke, .sc.ke and .ac.ke, and are registered through an accredited registrar 3.

Managed hosting and careAnza Studios: from Sh 4,500 a month for websites, Sh 12,500 for online storesHosting with security and software updates, monitoring so that if the site goes down it is fixed, up to 2 hours of content edits a month, and priority WhatsApp support

Why the cheapest hosting is not always cheaper

A Sh 899 plan keeps files on a server. It does not update the site, notice when it goes down, or change your prices when they change. If you or someone you pay does those things, cheap hosting is fine. If no one does, the saving shows up later as a site that is slow, broken or hacked when a customer opens it.

The one thing to check: whose name is on the domain

The domain should be registered in your name or your business's name, with the login details in your hands. A domain registered by a designer in their own name can be held back if you fall out, and moving it can take longer than building a new site. Ask before you pay. More questions like this are in questions to ask before paying a deposit.

With Anza Studios you own the domain, the site and the code. Hosting is part of the care plan; if you leave it, we hand you full access.

Registrars change their prices and offers often, and first-year offers usually renew at a higher price. Check before you buy. Anza Studios prices are our current starting prices.
